A small studio, deliberately.

Solace Foundry is an independent software studio — a limited liability company formed in Colorado, United States. It is founder-run: the person who runs the studio is the person who designs and writes the software.

The studio has no outside investment. That is a choice rather than a stage we are hoping to leave behind, and it has a practical consequence: we are not obliged to make our tools stickier than they should be. One of our products is explicitly designed to be needed less over time. A studio structured around growth targets would find that hard to justify. We do not have to.

What we build

Two products, both expressions of the same idea — that removing friction is not automatically an improvement, and that people should be able to choose to put some of it back.

• Serein — An accountability tool for people ending a compulsive habit. It puts real barriers back — chosen by the person themselves, and held in place by someone they trust. iOS, in development. Read more.
• Collegium — A study assistant for university students that already knows their actual courses — the syllabus, the deadlines, the files — so nothing has to be re-explained to it. Available at collegiumai.app.

How we work

The person using the tool sets its terms. We do not decide on someone’s behalf what they should restrict, study, or avoid. A tool that imposes its author’s judgement on a user is a different kind of product from the one we are trying to make.

Enforcement, not observation. Where our software restricts something, it does so by closing a route rather than by watching a person and reporting on them. This is a real technical distinction and we hold to it even where surveillance would be easier to build.

Structure that actually holds. A limit that dissolves the moment it becomes inconvenient was never a limit. If we ship a commitment feature, it has to survive contact with a person who genuinely wants to get around it — including the person who set it.
